Lesson 1: World Book Online Encyclopedia and more

1a - World Book School Edition-Kids What an eye opener! 1st I have to say, I LOVE the word KIDS in balloons! It's the little things! The "read aloud" function and word definition, neat! I chose the animal fossa. (Photo credit of fossa:Shutterstock)
A fossa is an animal that is like a large mongoose that lives in the forests of Madagascar. Reddish-brown fur, large nose and eyes and round ears. The fossa can weigh up to 26 pounds and grow 3' in length without the tail.
World Book Student
The fossa is found nowhere else but Madagascar. Males are larger and heavier than females. Territorial and live alone with exception of breeding in months September through December. Two to four offspring born blind and toothless. Deforestation has destroyed much of national habitat. The fossa is protected by several nature reserves and national parks in Madagascar.
World Book Advanced
Madagascar, an African country, one large island and several tiny islands nearby. Information is sidebars range from US Presidents to US Ambassadors. Clicking more Madagascar information of markets, government and economy just to name a few.

A picture is worth a 1,000 words, but dig deeper and WOW! Translate text into multiple languages.

Their front legs are shaped like paddles, no back legs and they have a rounded tail. The manatee feeds on water plants, their upper lip is divided in two. They can be found along coasts, but mainly the Amazon River and Caribbean Sea.

The Manatee is also called a sea cow weighing more than 3,500 pounds. They have solid bones, no morrow, making their skeletal structure heavy. Their lungs stretch horizontally. They are vulnerable to cold, they only have molars and can replace them when they are worn out. It takes them 7 days to digest their food and they can eat up to 100 pounds of food a day.
World Book Online Reference Center
South America, where manatees are found in the longest river of South America, the Amazon River. The sidebars bring a plethora of information from terrain, climate, animal/plant life to history.
1c - World Book Foreign Language Edition
Visual dictionary
Again, a picture is worth a 1,000 words more so because I lack in French and Spanish. Ane (French is ass or donkey; Spanish Asno or buro). Interesting to any age, same or similar animals, different pronunciation, spelling and if there is culture night in a community, a good come together or reading program.
Spanish language encyclopedia - Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos
I enjoyed listening to the article, Miss Monotone needs to soften, read fast or slow, I chose on Instinto (building bird nest). (Photo credit:Stone/Gerry Images)
A whole new meaning from the English version when trying to choose an animal in World Book School Edition. I grew up with a encyclopedia set, I was always in it, from pictures to then reading and being read to. I will always like holding the book, but children will really gravitate to this and so will adults, vibrant colors and fun illustration.

I liked the progression of the levels, advanced knowledge and all the information on left/right columns is why I chose to write it out in story form. Fun to dive in, picking only one animal was tough! :)
