Lesson 9: Genealogy - Ancestry, Heritage Quest & Sanborn Maps

It's Friday! Time passes quickly while searching in these databases, wealth of info!
AncestryLibrary
1.) I searched for myself, using part and full name, 1 result. Showed my last address in previous town (20 years ago) and recent apartment in Pierre (12 years ago). It was me, birthday correct and place of birth. Adding family members I thought would provide something else, but same result. I didn't know living were included, good to know!
2.) My grandfather Peter Glatt, born in North Dakota abt 1890, located in 1920 Census. Status: Married Elizabeth, born in Russia abt 1891, both could read and write. Lists first 4 children. Clicking on view original document a message appeared "Database id or database name specified incorrectly or the database is no longer valid."
3.) 412,442 results. WWI soldier photographs, professional baseball players with South Dakota origin, Mitchell Corn Palace c1909. "Image viewer may not be installed on this machine." But I was able to open some photo's like "Plowing the rich prairie soil by tractor, S.Dak." 1910; "Morning Roll Call" ND/SD Indian of North America
c1880. Some photo's could be enlarged, some not. Many photo's are Library of Congress Photo Collection, 1840-2000.
S.S. Dakota, c1905 Dakota Steamship. Very impressive.
4.) HeritageQuest. I began clicking on letters of publications, then "jumped to titles starting with", LIFE, 835 results showed. First result: The Life & Adventures of Daniel Boone, the 1st Settler of Kentucky. Clicking on the arrow left of the title, the Table of Contents appeared. Opening Chapter 1, I began to read. Several people had him born in different years and different places, but Daniel Boone was born in 1746 in Pennsylvania. Another interesting tidbit was the content could be changed from negative to positive, I've only found that on microform machines. The content could also be enlarged and a print could be downloaded.
5.) Sanborn Maps. South Dakota only selection. Looking to choose one town, not listed then selecting Bowdle Nov 1893 1 sheet/page I used the key as the index. They had colored coded the map, which would've been interesting to see. It wasn't until 1913 the index began. The grain elevator, railroad and lumberyard are still in use today. The original Catholic Church must've burned down, to build new in 1917. I hadn't been in the Sanborn Maps before and found quite interesting.

Hi, Pub Place! Your inability to view puzzles me. The screen will say something about downloading image viewer, but you should be able to say No, and still view the image. Same for viewing the census record. I hope you'll try again because (I hope) that was a temporary glitch. Interesting facts about Daniel Boone and Bowdle! Thanks for your comments!
