Lesson 4: Proquest

Happy February 1st! I like Proquest, I've been working at it the last year and the more I mess with it, like anything else, the more I like it. I do have an alert set up for a journal, it's handy and easy to set up. The alert doesn't disappear after a few days, a good update and read! I've been peaking at other's blogs the past couple of weeks, so glad others are having frustrations but exciting finds, we're all searching for different subjects and survey says! We're finding similar, fun, good ideas to use and still learning!
My basic search was 'South Dakota Veterinarian', 569 results were returned. The results of sources were found in magazines, newspapers, trade and scholarly journals and other options. The articles were full text, I like the PDF, photographs often carry the article. Narrowing the search to 'South Dakota Veterinarian Vicky Wilkey' and 1 result was located. Dr. Wilkey is our veterinarian, she made the front page in Sept 2006. I like how the article is all in one page instead of trying to search for the conclusion.
The publications this database provides astounds me, something for everyone above a certain grade level, maybe even middle school. Typing title DVM, it wasn't until I clicked on the title did the list of years appear. Searching within the publication is great, instead of returning to previous screens being confused or frustrated, wide variety of articles. According to the SD State Library website, I didn't note the detail of the two catagories Proquest Discovery and Proquest Research Library which narrows items down drastically. Depends on the search.
From the 'preview' tab to the right of each article, I can send an email (which I did and it worked!), print, export or save as file. Of course on picture, you can right click, click on marquee zoom and really enlarge items. Sometimes it's the little things, still learning at the PubPlace.

I need your help. How did you find and open pictures? I have tried to open the PDF file, but my computer seems to freeze each time. I don't see a camera or anything to click on that looks like it shows pictures associated with the articles.

Dear Clueless,
I see that you have posted pictures in previous lessons. Since the computers at work have more uumph, I am squeezing most of this Challenge in at work than home. For lesson SIRS, I opened the area on far right, pictures having to click on the entitled words for the pix to show. In World Book, the pic came with. In posting, I clicked on the pic icon, cut/paste the url and it imports the picture. Does this help? I don't know how to comment and get back to you, I hope this works, I am clueless! I enjoy your posts they help me.

Hey, PubPlace. Thanks for responding. Your response showed up in my email account.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I was looking for pictures in ProQuest specifically. I saw you had commented on pictures in ProQuest, how you could right click and zoom in. I never even found the pictures in ProQuest. Did you have to open the PDF to get them? For some reason, I never could open the pdf file, and I couldn't find pictures elsewhere. I know there must be pictures associated with magazine articles.

I'm sure it's right in front of me, and I just haven't noticed it. Kind of like when I'm searching for a book on a shelf and am convinced it's not there, then someone else spots it first thing.

I'm a bit behind and am just doing my Lesson 4. It was interesting reading what you've discovered using Proquest. I'm going to notice some of the items you mentioned in my searching. Thanks for the insights.
